Can you remember the first romance novel you read? If so, what was it?
I can't remember the first romance book that I read but I'm sure it was a Harlequin book. I do remember the first romance novel that really made a lasting impression on me however. It was Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts. I LOVED it! My friend gave it to me when we were in high school and too this day Nora Roberts is on my must read list.
I vaguely remember reading the occasional Mills and Boon book, but the first book to start my reading obsession was Twilight *gasp* and I LOVED IT. I hung around YA for a while reading Cassandra Clare and Maria Snyder, but my obsession kicked into over-drive when I found J.R. Ward.
I can't remember the very first one, but the first one I do remember is The Sherbrooke Bride by Catherine Coulter. I have the whole series now and the Sherbrookes are still one of my favorite families.

I'm sure it was a harlequin Growing up my aunt had an entire bedroom closet coverted into shelving and it was stuffed two deep with harlequins. I remember her giving me a bag full every time we visited. I would have been about 10 when I got the first bag.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to be like that Aunt one day :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother was like that. She's the one who got me hooked on reading and I have tons of books that she gave me over the years. A lot of which are ancient Harlequins.
ReplyDeleteGo Twilight Jodie!
ReplyDeleteI've always been a fan of Horror. Dean Koontz was always my fav horror/suspense author. In '09 I was ready to try something a little different. My friend gave me a Harlequin Blaze novel & swore it was so good!! The title was "One Good Man" by Alison Kent. After reading it, I was hooked on romance!!! Now I absolutely luv paranormal romance!!! :-D
ReplyDeleteSounds like Harlequin got us all hooked!!!:-)

ReplyDelete@ Jodie-BDB got me hooked on paranormal romance!!! Luv the Brothers!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteJ.R. Ward is awesome!!!
First romance book believe it or not was probably a western as those were what I grew up reading with my Dad... I would have to say more than likely it was either something by Zane Grey or Louis Lamour... By my teens though one of my older cousins started giving us books that included Barbara Cartland, Georgette Heyer and Victoria Holt so my first real "romances" were Victorian Historical Thrillers... Nowadays my favorite romance author would be Nora Roberts, she just has such wonderful characters and stories they are timeless!
ReplyDelete@ jfort - J.R IS fabulous isn't she!!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Kresley Cole? She is another of my favourite paranormal authors. Nissie started reading them this week and is already hooked.
My first romance was the late and great Kathleen Woodiwiss's A Rose in Winter! Oh, how I loved that book! I was only about 11 or 12 and did not know what she was describing half the time but I know I liked it!!! LOL!!! I have to blame my older sister for my addiction she is the one who gave me the book! If my mom would of caught me reading that I would of been in big trouble! It has been over 20 years since I first started. I now read almost all genres of romance.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am hooked on Kresley Cole. As well as J.R. Ward and Lara Adrian.
ReplyDeleteJohanna, I have Kathleen Woodiwiss books and have never gotten around to reading them. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to pull those to the front. :D
I haven't read any of Kresley Cole's books. Thanks for suggesting, Jodie & Nissie!!! I enjoy hearing what others are reading!!! Gives me ideas of what to read next!!! :-D Lara Adrian's series is also very addictive!!!! Absolutely luv it!!!!
