REVIEW: Letting Jack Watch by Katheryn Wallis

Letting Jack Watch

Book Blurb

Edmonton cop Jack has one rule for dating—don’t get emotionally involved. A string of short-term flings leaves him dissatisfied, though, and he starts to envy his partner, Jeremy, who’s been dating curvy redhead, Caitlin for a year.

Then, Jack glimpses something forbidden—and realizes a glimpse is not enough. For Caitlin and Jeremy, letting Jack watch began as an accident, and became a game. But they soon realize the game has high stakes—and threatens to tear them apart forever.

Jeremy doesn’t want to lose his best friend, but what will he have to sacrifice to keep Jack around? Caitlin knows what she wants, but getting it might destroy everything. And Jack may have come second, but he won’t settle for second best. He started out just watching.

Now he wants it all.

Jack Bucholski and Jeremy Richter are Edmonton cops and best friends. Jeremy started dating Caitlin Cook, a petite redheaded siren and transplanted American from New Jersey, a year ago after meeting her during a self-defense class that Caitlin had been taking through work and they have a great relationship. Jack on the other hand hasn’t had it so great. Over the past year he has dated a string of women avoiding commitment like the plague, all because of his previous girlfriend Angela, the woman he loved and trusted, ripped his heart to shreds when she up and left him for new boyfriend with deep pockets.

After a night of drinking beer at Jeremy’s apartment with their friends Jack ends up staying over. When he goes out on the balcony after everyone has gone to bed for some air he stumbles upon a free show through the curtain of a bedroom window, oh yeah it’s Caitlin going down on Jeremy. While he knows it is wrong he can’t help but silently watch and becomes totally turned on not only at what they are doing but also at the thought of what if that was Caitlin doing that to him?

After Caitlin and Jeremy have a pretty hot encounter in a darkened kitchen at another get together, fueled by the fact that they now know Jack is watching them, again, they decide that they want to take it one step farther so they invite Jack to join them so he can watch up close and personal and get to play too. So Jack starts joining in and I have to tell you that I was totally getting turned on just reading about Jack getting turned on and when they were all going at it in the subway after the Edmonton Oilers games it was WAY HOT!

But the situation starts to get complicated and this is one of the things I loved about this book. No matter what you tell me love and sex go hand in hand. I know, I know men are a different animal. Most single men think with their appendages and their hearts don’t usually figure in the equation. But that rang different in this book and I liked that. When the trio goes one step farther and Jeremy offers the ultimate gift of love and trust by letting Jack have sex with Caitlin and himself for what he thinks will be a one-time deal things go south. Having sex with Caitlin only has Jack realizing that he has been in love with her all along and just hasn’t wanted to admit it to himself. Well surprise Caitlin realizes she feels the same way about Jack. So where does that leave Jeremy? You are just going to have to read the story to find that out!

Being from the South the thing that drew me to this book was the Canadian Maple Leaf symbol on its cover. Katheryn Wellis is a Canadian writer and I frequent Canada a lot so I was intrigued to read a book that included references to familiar things to me such as Boston Pizza and Tim Hortons. In fact as soon as I cross the border I always stop at Tim Hortons and order a large coffee, one cream, half of a sweetener and a Maple dipped donut, actually two donuts because my one teenage son loves them as well.

This spicy hot quick read should definitely be put on your tbr list!
