REVIEW: The Look of Love by Bella Andre

The Look of Love

3.5 HEARTS

From Goodreads

With THE LOOK OF LOVE, bestselling author Bella Andre introduces you the Sullivan family. In this fun and emotional contemporary romance series, when a Sullivan bad boy falls...he falls hard. And it's forever.

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is—until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love—and protect—her, but will she let him?

Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her—and every sinfully sweet caress—as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart.

It's refreshing to see the hero know he's in love with the heroine before she does, and have the heroine fighting and denying her attraction to him instead of the other way around. For some reason, it made him seem so much stronger than other heroes...or maybe I'm just a sap.

Chase was a great leading man, and definitely drool-worthy. He finds a woman stranded on the side of the road in a nasty near-hailstorm and uses good ol' chivalry and helps her, unbeknownst that this woman would turn his entire life upside down. He takes it in stride, though. I really liked that he realzed quite early on that he has deeper feelings for Chloe than he ever thought was possible. Instead of denying them or trying to make their relationship out to be less than it is, he embraces it. But realizing that Chloe has some demons she is in desperate need to be rid of, he can't just go about sweeping her off her feet. He knows he has to be careful and easy with her, hoping in the end he can convince her that staying with hm is all she needs. It's nice to have a hero that is understanding instead of brooding and defensive once in a while.

Chloe is as jumpy as a squirrel. One wrong move and she bolts for the nearest tree. Well, rightfully so. It's clear to anyone that when chase found her that night, something was very wrong. Whatever it was had her on high alert of anything and everything that go near her. Lucky for her, our very strapping and gorgeous leading lad wasn't about to let that slide. I liked the struggle that Chloe seemed to go through throughout the story. It was believable, being scared one moment to feeling at east another then back on the defensive. It made it even easier to believe how through time and care and love of another, she was able to overcome her demons and allow herself to have the life she had always yearned for, but thought was never possible to attain. She took everything one moment at a time, and took a leap of faith, and that is what made the story.

And seriously, Chase could not be any hotter. I mean, not only was he incredibly sweet and caring, but he was a god in bed. What woman wouldn't want a man that paid attention to her and her needs the way he did? It was incredible! To have a man so attuned, so unable to resist you that he's thinking of you every waking moment is powerful, and quite the turn on. Luck woman, she is.

Contemporary works like this always fuel my wistful side. Very enjoyable and very addictive.

  2. Mmmm it does sound good! I just picked up my first Bella Andre book and have been looking forward to reading on it. Sounds like she knows what she's doing!

Ooo and I always love when the hero figures it out first. Doesn't happen often but such a treat when it does!
