For Christmas, Nathan has the perfect gift for Joshua, his best friend and sometimes lover: his magic. Ever since Nathan found out he had magical abilities, Joshua has supported him, encouraging him to cultivate his talent, so that Nathan is now the resident mage of the local Special Enforcer agency that employs both of them. Joshua, however, doesn’t have a trace of the talent, however much he wishes he could do magic too.
On a night off, Nathan offers Joshua a way to discover what it feels like to do magic by swapping bodies for a few hours. But before the night is over, their boss calls them both for back up, and the playful spell starts to cast a different light on their relationship. Will they be able to do their job and keep an innocent girl safe while stuck in each other’s skin, or will magic break them apart?
Joshua and Nathan had been best friends since childhood. They were coworkers - Joshua as a Special Enforcer (vampire police) and Nathan as a mage - and also happened to be lovers. Though they had been sleeping together for about 2 years there didn't seem to be a real commitment between them and that bothered Nathan. He wanted more than just sex from his bestie but he was afraid that Joshua would turn his back on him if he pushed the subject.
Joshua had always wanted to do magic like Nathan but alas, there wasn't a magical bone in his body. Knowing this Nathan came up with a spell that enabled them to switch bodies for a couple of hours. This way Joshua would be able to do magic. It was just their rotten luck that though it was Christmas and they had the day off, they got called into work. How were they going to get the job done while wearing each others skin?
Under His Skin takes the common body-switching idea and turns into something very unique and even sweet. First off, the fact that Nathan gave such a thoughtful gift to Joshua was thrilling. The man has totally endeared himself to me. You just know that a spell of that caliber took a lot of time, forethought and effort to put together. It showed just how much Nathan cared about Joshua.
I wasn't expecting this story to be so sweet and heartwarming. I loved how the body swapping lead to something even more special. The things that Joshua and Nathan found out about each other changed their relationship on more than one level an I for one found it spectacular to watch.

ReplyDeleteYou haven't tried M/M yet? You should. I firmly believe that we should try everything at least once. Kallysten was one of the first authors that I read that also wrote M/M.
