HOT SUMMER NIGHTS GIVEAWAY HOP

Find the full list of participants HERE

Blog hop runs from 12:01 AM July 18th
through to 11:59 PM July 22th, 2012.

Today we have a special guest - Jennifer Stevenson, who is sharing a little about herself and offering up her latest release as a giveaway.

Please tell our followers a little about yourself. What is a typical day in the life of ‘you’?

Wake up (reluctantly) and cuddle my perfect husband. Get up (reluctantly) and do 300 to 600
crunches of various kinds. Do my email. Eat a pound of bacon. Write, edit, research, blog, tweet, and do other authorly things until it’s time to go to roller skating speed club and fibrillate for two hours. Come home and ice the entire lower half of my body. Drink whisky. Repeat.

OR

Wake up at three a.m. and lie bed for hours with my Alphasmart Neo on my lap, drafting another scene. Then begin the above…only throw a nap in the middle of the day somewhere.

Do you have a current work in progress? If so, can you tell us a little about it?

I’m almost done with This Kiss, the second full novel of the Slacker Demons series. This one’s about Kamadeva, the defrocked Hindu god of lust, who was separated from his wife Rathi 500 years ago. Kama finds Rathi…reincarnated as an uptight women’s rights attorney who can’t find her love button with both hands. His mission: seduce her and bring her goddess memories back without cracking her sanity—and without letting her crack his skull when she remembers why she left 500 years ago. O wow, I think this means she’s his runaway virgin amnesiac bride.

What has been the hardest emotionally or time consuming thing you’ve had to research for one of your stories?

You’re asking me to remember what labor was like when I had that baby. This is what post-partum hormones are for. So I don’t have to remember. Give me time, I may think of one.

Okay, here’s the current work-in-labor. Coming up just after This Kiss, I’ll write I Need a Hero,
book #3 in Slacker Demons. The secondary hero is Veek, the son of a French aristocrat and a voodoo priestess. That’s as much as I’ve been able to nail down about him. My research has been exhausting, because every time I think I’ve got his backstory worked out, I realize it won’t work with the story of the primary hero of I Need A Hero. Then it’s back to the books to see if I can find something else that will work. I may end up doing a separate story about him. He’s making me nuts.

The problem with Veek is that he came to me (along with the other heroes of Slacker Demons) while I was collaging the title. I found a photograph in a magazine that just rivetted me. I glued him on the collage. And from that point on, he has told me just two things about himself: 1) “I am in this book, so get used to it.” 2) “I’m not telling you anything else about myself.”

I am not the kind of writer who takes this crap from characters. They do what they’re told. I mold them out of raw imagination, chocolate, movie actors, research, raunchy anecdotes, and fear. I’ve never had a character just boss me around like this.

If I beg and plead and fast and wear a rubber chicken on my head for four days straight, Veek will tell me one teeny thing about himself. The trouble is, I have to wear a helmet when roller skating, and I skate three days a week. The chicken doesn’t fit under it, and people make remarks if I tape the chicken on top.

It’s gonna be a long summer.

Have any of your characters resembled people in real life?

Not if I can help it. They’re all mashups.

Quickie Question Round

Sexiest feature in a man? Arms and shoulders.

If you were deserted on an island and could only have one man with you – who would it be?

I think Bobbyjay Morton, hero of my stagehand romance Fools Paradise. He’s designed after my significant other. Hunky, adorable, sweetest beta male on earth.

Tell us something on your bucket list.

Go to the rainforest and hang out, before it’s all chopped down.

Your bookshelf is on fire, you can only save what you can carry what do you save?

You’re killing me here. Okay, one from each of my favorites: Terry Pratchett, The Truth. Jennifer Crusie, Welcome to Temptation. Georgette Heyer, Friday’s Child. Carl Hiaasen, Skinny Dip. Rex Stout, Death of a Doxy. PG Wodehouse, The Mating Season. Lorna Novak, How Amelia Secured the Tie that Binds with a Very Loose Knot.

And lastly, If our viewers wanted to find out more about your work where can they find it and you?

For the Hot Summer Nights Giveaway Hop we are giving away an e-copy of Jennifer Stevenson's latest release.

It's Raining Men - (Slacker Demons, #1)
by Just for you, it's gonna start raining men.

Archie is a sex demon who’s so lazy, he’s this close to being kicked out of hell. Chloe is a brand bimbo for a liquor distributor, dating bums and secretly crushing on her favorite bartender, Archie.

Archie only wants to comfort Chloe after her latest dumping. He doesn’t plan to show her the sex demons’ sweat-socky man lair, or confess to collecting thirty pieces of silver a month for seducing women. He doesn’t even intend to kiss her. It all starts with one well-meant lie…

“Just for you, it’s gonna start raining men.”

  15. Loved that interview! It made my night, I needed some smiles. I haven't speed skated since high school, but I did do it and that's how I broke my right knee. Which now(many many years later) is the reason I have 2 full knee replacements. I haven't heard of these books, but they sound great, so I will def be checking them out. Thanks!!
