It's another year over! Can you believe it? Well we authors, readers, and bloggers sure can't. And to celebrate the New Year with bang, we're going crazy and sending out so many prizes, fun parties, experiences, and other goodies, that it's a bit scary. Each author has a favorite New Year memory, book, idea, or way to party and we're going to show you! Can't wait to see you January 1st - 6th!
And while we do that, we are EACH doing a giveaway. Yep. There will be over 200 giveaways on each blog hosted by that Author or Blogger.
But that's not all....
We have THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 200 times!
Now what are those prizes?
1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet
2nd Grand Prize: A $300 Amazon or B&N Gift Card
3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!
Today we are welcoming Marie Ashley. Please make her feel welcome.
Please tell our followers a little about yourself. What is a typical day in the life of ‘you’?
I love to read, especially historical romance, and spend a good portion of my week doing just that. I write several hours a day and spend time looking after my husband, Jim and my cat, Callie. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and enjoy all the seasons and spend a lot of time outdoors.
Do you have a current work in progress? If so, can you tell us a little about it?
I actually have several “works in progress”. I have three books that have been submitted to
publishers, The Ugly Cinderella, Mistaking Merry and The Librarian. I am waiting to see if they have been accepted or if major re-writes are needed. I have three others that are bouncing around in my head right now and I just need to decide which one to start on and the words will start to flow. So by this time next year I hope to have six more books out for the readers.
What has been the hardest emotionally or time consuming thing you’ve had to research for one of
your stories?
The hardest research is on abuse in a marriage. A couple of my heroines have an abusive past and because of my own abusive past in my previous marriage, I find it painful to do the research but also find it healing to “dive” in and analyze the characters while comparing it to my own experiences.
Have any of your characters resembled people in real life?
Yes. I like to keep my characters as real as possible so it is easier for the reader to associate with my characters and I find the story line easier to follow if I am being realistic about my people.
Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay attention to them enough to influence your
writing?
Yes, yes and yes. I like to hear what people have to say about my work whether it is good or bad. It is, after all, only that person’s opinion and I like to hear all opinions. It helps me to evolve as a writer so that I am not living in my own narrow space and am opening up to all possibilities and opinions. I do, of course, reserve the right to keep my own opinion when it comes to the final product I put out there.
Quickie Question Round
Sexiest feature in a man? His butt.
If you were deserted on an island and could only have one man with you – who would it be? Cameron McLaren... the main character in my book, Mistaking Merry... tall, dark, handsome and so-o-o-o-o sexy
Tell us something on your bucket list. I don’t really have a bucket list. I follow one day at a time and go on impulse a lot but if I could have one wish... it would be to get rid of my insane fear of heights.
What is your favourite romance novel by another author? It is not a single novel but the Donovan Legacy, which is a series, by Nora Roberts
Your bookshelf is on fire, you can only save what you can carry what do you save? All my historical romance and if I can’t carry it all I would start heaving it out the window which is right by my bookcase.
And lastly, If our viewers wanted to find out more about your work where can they find it and you?
I am presently published by Silver Publishing https://spsilverpublishing.com
I have a blog at http://marieashleyauthor.blogspot.com.au/
